I'm researching the Owens family of Edgecombe County (the Otter Creek Township), North Carolina. I can trace back to a Dempsey Owens born there in 1801. His father and/or grandfather were also named Dempsey Owens, as was my great-grandfather. There are at least three Kinchen Owens in the line - the latest my uncle who went by the nickname Dock. Freeman is also a common given name in the Owens line. My father's next older brother who died in infancy was Henry Freeman Owens and at least one of the Dempsey Owens' above had Freeman as a middle name.

My question: here and how could all these names be connected? I've found several in Virginia - Isle of Wight, Botetort, etc. Could they have all come from the same place (there was a Freeman in the Edgecombe Co. 1790 census) in Wales? Ireland? where???
