You need more information. John is too common a name. The Dempseys owned abt 100 square miles in the center of Ireland where Leix, Offaly and Kildare meet.
My branch joined one of the revolts against British domination and ended up in Cork. Cromwell really scattered the Dempseys all over Ireland and Europe. Portarlington and all the land within 5 to 10 miles was Dempsey territory. There was only one Dempsey family originally so we are all related.
