Could anyone tell me if Nancy Dempsey really was the wife of Dempsey POWELL of Wake Co., NC. Dempsey POWELL was born 11 March 1752 and Nancy DEMPSEY was born c1755. His (2) wife was Pleasant BENTON and their son Caswell POWELL b. c1780 is my husband's ancestor. Dempsey POWELL and Nancy DEMPSEY (?) had the following children: Cloey b. c1767 m. James Fort; Elizabeth b. c1769 m. Robert Temple; Charlott b. c1774 m. John Sims; then Nancy (Dempsey?) POWELL must have died by 1780. The other children with Pleasant Benton are: Jesse POWELL b. c1781 m. Mildred Brown; Patsey POWELL b. c1780 m. John Fort; Mildred POWELL b. c1785 m. John Streeter; Benton POWELL b. c1786; and Dempsey POWELL b. c1788 m. Polly Baugh.
