Judy,
I see our thoughts are going along the same line, suspecting that DeMoss line is connected to Louis through William. It has always seemed strange to me that there is so little information about William's family other than all those land records.
I keep hearing about the man who was killed by the limb of a tree near Kaskaskia, but in going through Asa Demoss Harper's writings, he doesn't seem to fit into the lineage.
By the way, Asa Demoss Harper was born ca 1813.His son, B. Frank Harper, gave Asa's death date as 31 Aug 1895 and said he died at the age of 82.So many he is the "young" Asa you have as a child of James DeMoss and Nancy.I don't know who Asa Demoss Harper married, however. His mother's name was Catherine, and he does mention an uncle Asa.
Of course, it still has not been established that his ancestors are the same as the ancestors of the Livingston Co. DeMosses, but his story parallels that of Asa DeMoss in the Livingston Co. History with the grandfather being killed by Indians at North Bend, OH.
