re. des Marets ancestry of David Demarest (ca. 1620-1693)

I'm quite new to the whole Demarest genealogy -- only just discovered a probable descent from Samuel Demaree/Demarest and his wife Leah Demarest -- but I've already seen the ancestry of David Demarest (ca. 1620-1693) which claims to trace his descet from the des Marets family all the way back to the 12th century and beyond. My question, however, is how accurate is this material? As far as I can tell, every site online winds up (one way or another) with the 1964 Demarest family history as its source for this lineage. Having looked at that work, however, I'm puzzled since as far as I can tell the author(s) offered no proof of any kind for the ancestry they presented for David Demarest. Has anyone ever been able to substantiate any of this material? The same goes of the claimed ancestry of David's wife, Marie Sohier.

Any and all help will be much appreciated.
