DeLozier Family Genealogy Forum

This message is also for Lisa. The first Delozier that is known to be in America was named Daniel Delozier of Maryland. Most researchers list his birth date from 1660-1685. However, I believe the first Delozier was here a few years earlier. There is a land record, June 7, 1668 for Luke Green and John Cable, which indicates the land ran "on the side of a hill near possession of Dan. Deloyosha." If Daniel was at least 21, he would have been born 1647,possibly earlier. Please keep in mind most names were spelled phonetically in times past. The name Deloysha is about the same as the french pronunciation of our family name. I had an elderly professor in College pronounce my name that way. If you are new to research, you need to know that you must gather as much information on the generations closest to you (ask relatives). You can't start at the beginning and work back to you, you have to go the other way. I have never run onto a Delozier that was not traced back to Daniel(1600's). The second thing is if you type Delozier into your search bar, you will probably get dozens of sites with Delozier geneology information. About early photos, There was in Delozier Times in 2001 a photo printed on the cover. It was said that was a photo of Edward Delozier and Fanny Dyer Delozier. It wasn't them. It was the photo of my grandparents, Crumel Hampton and Lydia Britt Delozier with oldest 3 sons & grandad's brother Edward Green and Nancy Reed Delozier and 3 of their children. The mix-up, i suppose was because of the name Edward Delozier.
