Finally!! Robert and Susan were m. in Roane Co., TN, with Robert GILLILAND standing bond, 2 Feb 1838, by Levi CASEY, JP. They are in the 1850 Census with 5 daughters ranging in age from 12 to 1. There is a write up on the Delozier family in the book, "Heritage of Roane Co., TN, 1801 - 1999", no longer in print! Earliest Delozier appears here as early as 1808 in militia/tax records. A George is listed in the 1830 Census and again in 1840. In 1850, we find George appears in the 1850 Census, age 66, b. VA, with Allen, 32, Abram E., 25, Eveline, 25, and Jesse W., age 1. The Delozier article follows the family of George Allen, s/o of George (the elder). George and Eveline CLARK were m. 6 Jly 1848, and by 1860, the elder George is not longer found and the younger family is living at Post Oak, which is more easily found as Rockwood on current maps. There is a DELOZIER Cemetery about half way between Rockwood and Harriman. In the 1850 Census, we find Robert W. BOYD, 33, occupation Merchant, and owning land. Susan is 29, Evaline T., 12, Pepniah (female), 9, Milda J. (female), 6, Maria, 4 and Susan 1. Going back to the Roane "Heritage Book", we find a full article on Robert W., stating b. 1817 - d. 1889. He was son of Henry S. and Susannah B. BOYD who moved to Roane Co., TN, in the early 1830's. It indicates that Susan was b. November 1820 in Kingston and d. Nov 1893 in Central City NE. This author lists the children as: Eveline, Peoniah, Mildred Jane, Mariah, Susan Jr., Henry W., Mary, John, Simeon and Robert W., Jr. Some members of the DELOZIER family are intered at the SMALLEY Cemetery, some 5 miles South of Kingston on the old hiway, and it also indicates that Robert's Grandfather, William BOYD (1761 - 1847), is also interred there. Robert and Susan once owned the farm where this Cemetery is located, having inherited it from her parents. A somewhat famous landmark called Double Springs lies on this property, which was supposedly one spring prior two a dispute over this with a neighbor, The story goes that on the very day the court ruled against Robert's ownership, a miracle occurred involving the creation of a new spring, thus the name, and this miracle led Robert attending church, being coverted and begining preaching. The article on William BOYD indicates he is BELIEVED to be s/o Samuel BOYD of NC, grandson of James BOYD of Granville Co., NC, and Grt Grandson of George BOYD of PA and Ireland. William's grt grandfather George was b. 1691 in Ireland, d. 1731 in Compass PA, had 5 sons, 4 of which migrated to VA. Two of these, James and Robert, left VA and Settled in Granville Co., NC. James had five children, all of whom moved to TN. William BOYD was a Rev. War vetern from Orange Co., NC, and received a pension for service. The pension was in Roane Co. for $60.00 a year, beginning in 1832. He was m. to Mary WASSON, b. 1763, VA - d. 20 May 1779. He then m. Nancy SMALLEY, 7 Feb 1783,and was living with her at the time of his decease. The article states that William and his first wife had three known children: Henry, 17 Apr 1780 - 21 Apr 1856; John, 7 Dec 1781 - 21 Aug 1837; Elizabeth b. 1782. This should give you several resources to document these families. We have only one professional researcher in Roane and immediate area. I will supply details if you wish to go that route, and have no one local who can retrieve the documentation for you. Notify Administrator about this message?
