There is a biography of G. W. DeLong, the Arctic explorer, entitled "The Voyage of the Jeanette." I had a chance to read it about 20 years ago when my aunt, Bonnie DeLong Culp, came across it in the Saginaw, MI public library while researching the family name. According to the book, he only had one child, a daughter. His was a rather tragic story - I hope that you can find it. I regret not recalling the author's name.
