I've found two military records for World War I. One is for George W. DeLong, born 29 Oct. 1896 in Temperanceville, OH. He enlisted in the army at St. Clairsville, OH on 05 Sept. 1918, and was honorably discharged on 11 Dec. 1918. His residence at the time of enlistment in 1918 was Temperanceville. I'm trying to identify his parents and grandparents. The 1900 census record for Belmont Co., OH shows a George W. DeLong, age 3, with parents named James DeLong (age 45) and Nancy (age 38). Other siblings listed were Mary C., and Maggie R. I suspect that this is the same George W. DeLong as the military record, but would like to know if anyone can tell me. A record on Ancestry.com shows a James A. DeLong whose birth date would be about right for the James, father of George W. DeLong, in the census record. That James was the son of Edmund DeLong & Mary A. Gallagher, and his wife was Nancy Flood. But it's just an educated guess on my part that I have the right family. The other military record is for a Guy W. DeLong, born in Belmont Co., OH. He enlisted in the army on 12 March 1918 at 22 years, 3 months of age (no birth date shown), and was honorably discharged on 22 March 1919. His residence at the time of his enlistment in 1918 was Youngstown, OH. If anyone knows the identity of his parents and grandparents please post an answer to this message. Thanks for giving this posting some thought. Karen Notify Administrator about this message?
