I've been searching for the parents of my 5th great-grandfather George DeLong for over 10 years with no success. He was allegedly born sometime between 1740-1750 in PA. His first-born son, my 4th great-grandfather, was John Francis DeLong, Sr. I have records of George and family living in Franklin/Cumberland Co., PA from at least 1786 to about 1800 before migrating to Ohio about 1802, but haven't found their residence prior to Franklin/Cumberland Co., PA. Recently I was referred to a man who has done extensive research on settlers of the Beekman Patent in Dutchess Co., NY. He has told me that he thinks my George DeLong was the son of Frans DeLong who was the son of Jan/Johannes DeLong who was the son of Arie Fransen Langet/Delong. He stated that Frans Delong left NY and settled in PA, but the records of his known children leaves a gap between 1744-1754. He believes that it would have been logical for my George DeLong to have named his son John Francis, in memory of George's alleged grandfather Jan/Johannes Delong and George's alleged father Frans Delong. In order for me to go forward on that premise I need to prove a family connection to that DeLong family. From research I've done on this Delong family, the earliest known ancestor was Arie Fransen Langet/Delong who settled in Ulster Co., NY and died before 1699. His wife's name was Rachel and she remarried after Arie's death. Arie and Rachel had a son Jan/Johannes deLang/Delong, born Ulster Co. about 1690, married Anna Magdalena Wyser/Weiser. Jan and Anna Magdalena Delong settled in Dutchess Co., NY around 1713-1720 in an area which later became part of what is now Greene Co., NY Jan and Anna Magdalena had a son Frans Delong, born about 1716-1717; Frans married Catherine Dymont, and some researchers say he had a 2nd wife named Hannay Carley. Frans appeared later on in Northampton Co., PA, perhaps by 1750-1755, but definitely by 1761. He lived in Smithfield Twp., Northampton Co., PA. I've got some queries out to Monroe Co., PA because I believe that area would now be in Monroe Co. If anyone in this gen-forum has ancestral ties to the above family, I surely would appreciate hearing from you, especially on the subject of Frans and his life in PA. Even any tidbit of info may be helpful to me at some point in time. Thanks for any assistance you can give. Karen Notify Administrator about this message?
