I have an article, "The Origins of the Surname Dellinger and Some Variants" by David W. Dellinger, 25 Nov 1999 in which he quotes excerpts from Prof. Josef Karlmann Brechenmacher's "Etymologisches Wortenbuch der Deutschen Familiennamem" (Etymoligical Dictionary of German Family Names). Dellinger comes from a place name Dillengen (formerly near Donaueschinger which is the source of the Danube river) or an older form Talinger.. This Dillengen was located in the Duchy of Wurttemberg in the present day state of Baden-Wurttemberg. There is other Dillengens in Saarland and near Neuenberg and Frankfurt. You will need to find a map of Bavaria for the 13th or 14th century to find these places as they do seem to exist in present day Germany. Many people have felt that Dellinger,Dolliner and Tillinger are variations of the same name. Also the letter D and T seem to be interchangible as the beginning of surnames. Many of the Dillenger, or variations in this article identify dates in the early 1300's thru late 1400's, so George, abt 1690, could have been in other than the locations cited. All this may be just adding confusion to the search for George's birthplace. However, it does locate the general area for the origin of the Dellinger surname.
