At the time that you ask, I believe that he was an abolitionist who fled some of the conflicts in other areas.

He was later the US Marshal in the Oklahoma Territory at Fort Smith as of 15 June 1880. I understood that he served in that position about 2 years and is buried in the cemetery near the old courthouse. Born 1829 Baden, Germany Married Adelia Hunt.

He may be related to me by blood, but back to Germany rather than after. But then we are also related as we both wore the same star for the same organization.

I have not checked Union Military records, but you will find Senate confirmation documents and National Park documents on him.
