Benjamin, There was a family of Dell's who came to South Africa with the 1820 settlers, namely Edward Hunt Dell (1782-1846) and wife, Hannah(Anne) nee White (1782?-1871) and their sons John, Stephen, Edward II and Samuel. Perhaps one of these is your ancestor. Good luck with the search.
