Nicholas DILL is *not* the same person as Nicholas DELL. They are each enumerated separately in the census of 1790. Nicholas Dill was a founder of the Lutheran church in Silver Run -- St. Mary's -- and was a treasurer of the church for nearly a decade in the 1820's. John Nicholas DELL was a Roman Catholic, possibly of Scottish descent, and died around 1815; he was the progenitor of many, perhaps most, of the Dells of Carroll County today. The similarity of their names has caused vast confusion for genealogical researchers. If anyone actually reads this message, and is interested in resolving the issue, please contact me; I am actively researching it.
