Does anyone know if there is a connection between the DELL name & the DILL name?

On the Carroll Co MD census Dell is listed as Dill (Nicholas). My searches have turned up both the Dells & Dills in Carroll Co. MD. So far I can see no connection. Also the name Nicholas & Nicolaus are listed for Dell & Dill respectively.

Dell may be English & Dill German.

Any one have a clue to this mystery?
