The Dells were in Morris Co., NJ, Burlington Co., NJ, Gloucester, NJ, Philadelphia, PA, then to Willoughby (Niagara) Ontario, Canada. They can be found in Niagara Falls, NY, and Illinois/Michigan as well. They are sometimes "Dell" and may possibly be "Dill". From Willoughby Historical Society in Canada, Dell file. 1786 William Dell & wife Hannah Steinhoff arrive in Willoughby, Ontario, Canada. 1788, his father Basnet (various spellings) arrives with wife Hannah Burris, dau. Rebecca, sons Henry, Nathaniel & Burris. Son Adoram killed in Rev. War (Loyalist). Henry fought w/NJ volunteers. After Rev War, they lost everything, so went to Canada. Rewarded for being Loyalists, many Dells recieved land grants in Niagara frontier. Bassnett,Jr. & wife Ann de Fields 1789. Story is that Bassnett came with musket ofer one shoulder, ax in other. Ann came riding horse, basket on each side, with a sonHenry & Martin)in each basket & 1 in her arms (Peter). Settled in Lyons Creek area, now Willow-Dell golf/County Club. (Lots 15 & 16, Consession 7) Martin (my line) built a log house in/about Jan. 1810, brought wife Rebecca Lemon to it. It stood until 1944. Another descendant, James Dell & wife Charity sold land (Feb 21, 1857) for the Dell School. There was a Dell church (May 13, 1851, Henry Dell, Sr. & brother Martin Dell deed to Methodist Episcopal Church, church not used from late 20's & sold 1938) still is a Dell Cemetery, near Lyons Creek Road & QEW, on Reixinger Road. Most, if not all in it related. During war of 1812, some Dells went back to NJ to visit, and while back, war broke out. They had problems getting back, but swam horses back by way of Grand Island. Many Dells served in the community as treasurers, tax collectors, wardens & assessors. Copies of Loyalist papers for Bassnett Dell exist. Dells are buried in McCready, Young, Dell, Lyons Creek Cemetery. Henry Dell Lived on Schooley Mountain in NJ. K. Everingham has much of the tree posted. The area settled by the Dells is near Niagara & Chippawa, Ontario, Canada. I too, am looking for Dell info in NJ. Doram [Adoram] Dell & Henry [Dell] Dill appear on NJ muster rolls of Capt. Silas Hopkins Co. of NJ Volunteers, commanded by Col. Joseph Barton. Also tracing Frampton Dell, believed to be Henry's brother b. abt 1702 in NJ. Also looking into the Bassnett/Dell/Frampton/Potter connections in NJ 1680-1750.
