Dick or Debra, According to my father, who is still alive, his grandfather (James-b:1866),was a Delisle who came to oswego as an illegal alien. As a young man he worked as a mule skinner on the erie canal and ended up in Oswego. He resided with a family named Arroway and took their name. The Arroways' came to Oswego from St. Lawrence co. and previously Canada, probably the same place as the Delisles. My dad never new anything else about the Delisles but James would go to visit them in Oswego so we believe they were related. My dad also would visit a family named Delisle in FairHaven and does not remember how they met or if they were relatives. I know of all the Delisles you have spoken of but am wondering if the name James Arroway is familiar for any reason? Also I once found a bunch in a Canadian census but that was before I knew the names in Oswego and I didn't follow up on it. The name Arroway I haven't had good luck with either and I suspect the spelling had changed from maybe Laraway or Caraway.
May be some kind of lead! Bob
