I wonder if anyone as any information on Brian de Lisle (Baron I think)who was the castellan of Peak Castle in Derbyshire, England in 1216. I understand he was a loyal supporter of King John (1189-1216) and was ordered by him to surrender Peak Castle to William de Ferrers, Earl of Derby. He refused to and eventually was beseiged by the Earl in May 1217. Apparently he got off quite lightly in the end and gave in when the powers that be assured him that he could remain as castellan of Knaresborough. He went on to bigger and better things (becoming Chief Justice of the Royal Forest) but I have no idea at all of his age, family connections etc. I'm writing a book about this story and really want to discover more about him.
Any ifo gratefully received.
