Charles A. De Lisle was my great grandfather. He was born in Vincennes Indiana and after the deaths of his parents he was placed in St. Vincent's Male orphanage eventhough he had older brothers and sisters. I think that possibly his parents were Augustine De Lisle b. abt. 1815 Vincennes Indiana d. between 1865 and 1870 m. 06 Sep 1841 in the Old Cathedral, Vincennes, Knox Co., Indiana and Marie Anne Deslauriers b. Abt. 1824 Vincennes Indiana d. 02 Mar 1866 Vincennes Indiana.
There are several birth dates for Charles A. De Lisle. According to the 1870 Census of the St. Vincent's Male Orphanage, he was eight making his birth year 1862. His headstone says 1857. His age on 1920 census is given as 61, so year of birth there was 1859. On the 1910 census his age is given as 32 making the year 1868. I go with the 1862 date for two reasons. One, he was listed as 8 by the orphanage and two, Aunt Grace De Lisle Smith told me that his parents died when he was about 4. I could be all wrong on the parents and his year of birth, but this is the avenue I'm taking at the moment.
You can visit RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project and find the ancestors of Marie Anne Deslauriers.
Hope I've been of some help.
Carolyn
