During 1870-73, this Van B. was involved in the landscaping of the campus of Ohio State University at Columbus OH. He owned a farm in what is now northwest Columbus, part of which was used in those days as the winter home of the Sells Brothers Circus, and the area was popularly known as Sellsville. It is now a light industry section of Columbus, and a short street there is named Delashmutt St. Van B. was a farmer and contractor. When a partner absconded with the company funds, Van B. paid off all the creditors, losing the farm and most of his possessions in the process. He remained on rented farms in Franklin Co. OH until 1911, when he moved his family to Vicksburg, Michigan. He had 10 children by his 3 wives.

Other children of William & Lois: Edwin Ruthven Delashmutt, Porter Brown Delashmutt (my 2-gr grandfather), Esther Ann and Josephine.

William Trammel Delashmutt was the son of John K. Delashmutt and Sarah Weatherington.

John K. is believed to be the son of Elias Delashmutt, Jr. & Catherine Waugh.

Elias, Jr. was the son of Elias, Sr & Elizabeth Nelson, daughter of John Nelson, Sr. of Point of Rocks, Fredrick Co. MD.

Elias Delashmutt, Sr. b. 1710-15, probably in Gloucester Co. NJ, d. 1778 in Frederick Co., MD, was the son of Pierre (Peter) de la Chaumette. Peter was in Gloucester County long enough before 1698 to have been called for jury duty, and he distinguished himself by failing to appear. Therefore, we find his name in records on the Delinquent Juror List.

Now, I've taken all the fun out of "searching for your roots!" I have lots more. You can email me: for more. Bev
