"The original French name was de la Chamette, meaning little thatched roof house.
The original Lashmet, when he was a boy 9 years old, was fishing on the banks of one of the Frency
Rivers and was kidnapped by pirates and brought here to the US. Evidently, he had seen too much
and they didn't dare leave him to inform authorities. When he was released, (abandoned) ... he in his
fright, dropped the "de" from his French name. He grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and his name was
Eliash Lasmet."
