Ambrose's father is believed to be William, born after 1770 in Weston, Oenida Co., who married Jerusha (no surname known). And William's father to be Robert born 8 Oct 1743, Andover, Essex Co., MA, who m Ruth Deane on 10 Oct 1765 in Willmington, Middlesex Co., MA, and his father to be John. If this is true it does not tie in with the De Lapps who came from Ireland a couple of generations later.
Lovina and Cornelia's father was Stephen Andrews b East Glastonbury, CT 25 Jun 1765. But maybe you know that line.
Several cousins in WI, CA and OR and elsewhere who come from Ambrose are looking for more confirmation of the above. NY records are scarce.
I find the Irish connection unlikely since there was not a breath of a tradition in that direction whereas my grandfather said confidently that he was from Huguenots. But he could be wrong, just the same. He said that the Andrews/ Andrus came from Gov. Andros, which is preposterous, since that family is well recorded. But the Wm<Robt.<John line is not from anything he said or hinted at, but from other evidence.
Did Kathy have a copy of the Bible, or just have seen the information from the Bible?
