Found in Hancock Co., Ill. Portrait and Biographical Record, pp 305. Film # 924,497, item 9. William A. Compton, a son of Henry and Sarah J.(Smith)Compton. Sarah's parents were David and Heneritta Delap Smith.They were married in Schuyler Co., Ill. Heneritta Delap's father was Thomas Delap, who was the son of a Frenchman. Thomas was born in 1781, in Kentucky, lived to a great age, and died in 1873, at his home near Burlington, Iowa. Let me know if you wish more of the biography on this family.
