Yes this is chronicled in Otis' book: Gene. Notes of Barnstable Families. Since only this son James, had children (there were a lot of daughters), and he went to Canada, evidently a Loyalist, the other De Laps eminating from MA must be from a different immigrant. John De Lap died for instance in 1811 and had a son as early as 1743. James, father of James, that you refer to, came in 1729, and his children were born 1739-1759.
