Daniel Delaney married Elizabeth McGhee, b. 1795 in Virginia, on December 6, 1821 in Washington County, TN. Elizabeth's surname was often spelled McGee in public records. Elizabeth was the daughter of Robert McGhee and Rebecca Scruggs. Other children were John, b.1796, Daniel, Polly Ann, b. 1804, Delilah Phoebe, b. 1805, Nicholas, b. 1806, Solomon, b. 1808, Dorothy, b. 1809, Robert, b. 1812, and Cyrenia, b. 1816.

Daniel Delaney's father, John D. Delaney, was one of the Nolichuckey settlers in Greene County. He received a pension and land grant for his service in the Revolutionary War. Most of the Delaney's in East Tennessee are descended from John D. Delaney, but, like all generalities, there are exceptions.
