My great great grandfather was a Maurice Delaney, who married Julia McGrath in the Ottawa Valley about 1848-49. He left his wife and one son, Michael, and it is thought that he went to the US to find work and became involved in the Civil War, and perhaps killed, as he was never heard from again.
