Hello,
See my post http://genforum.genealogy.com/delaney/messages/2038.html and you'll see a Jessie Delaney (female) born 1887 in Edinburgh.
There is also a George Reat Delaney born 1889 but in Glasgow:
2 1889 DE LANEY GEORGE REAT M BLACKFRIARS GLASGOW CITY LANARK 644/05 33

The Delaneys I know came over to Scotland from Queens County (County Laois)/ County Kilkenny in Ireland to work the coal and iron works, and were recorded in Scotland as early as the 1850/60s.

Scottish records can be obtained online from:
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Ellis Island records should have shipping manifests of arrivals from Scotland:
http://www.ellisisland.org/

Do you have the marriage certificate of James and Jessie? Were the parents of James listed?
