I am trying to find info on my gggrandmother Mary Hannah Delaney (about 1843-1930) from Findlay Ohio, and her father Mark Delaney (about 1811-1850). She married Eli Haddox Dukes. All I have found on Hannah is that her father was the Rev. Mark Delaney, and he appears to have died fairly young. Hannah was on the 1860 census with Eli and his parents at age 17 as Hannah Delaney, about 5 years before they married. All I can find on Mark is that he died suddenly in 1850, and he is listed as married on the mortality report I found. I've found Mark mentioned as officiating in a wedding or two, and some events with the Methodist Episcopal church.
I've found nothing at all on Hannah's mother. Hannah's daugher Clemma Ione Dukes m. Charles Byron Wright, and their child Helen Louise was my grandmother. Helen m. Ralph C. Waters and they also lived in Ohio.
The Delaneys are mentioned in a bio of Eli Dukes, which states Hannah is of Irish, Welsh, and English ancestry. Recently we sent in a DNA sample from my father (Hannah's ggrandson)just before he died for maternal mitochondrial DNA testing. To our surprise it came back as haplogroup A. While we've had rumors of Native American ancestry from several different directions, this was not one of them. Hannah's daughter Ione died when my grandmother was still very young, so we don't have any stories about Hannah. We do have some pictures though of Hannah and some of her children, grandchildren and ggrandchildren, including my father, from a visit the Waters made to Findlay sometime in the 1920's.
So how this lady of Irish descent came to be in haplogroup A is a mystery!
