Dear Gerard,

My ggggrandfather was Martin Delaney. His wife was Mary Delaney. Martin was born in 1798 and Mary was born in 1800. In the US 1880 Census, Martin and Mary lived with his son, Thomas and wife Bridget in Port Griffith, Pennsylvania.(Near Scranton and Wilkes-Barre.) Other children of the marriage in this area were Catherine, widow of James Mangan, James Delaney, married to Celia; Bridget Delaney, and Thomas, married to Bridget. Catherine Delaney Mangan was my gggrandmother.

Family stories tell that we,(Delaneys and Mangans originated from County Mayo.) I have not been able to confirm this or place either family in a parish or specific townland. I believe that Catherine Delaney and James Mangan were married in Ireland. Their first two children were born in Ireland...Michael in 1854, and James, Jr. in 1858. Catherine was born in 1834.

It would be lovely if we were related.

Maureen
