Judith, I just started looking into my Delaney roots. I noticed that you posted this years ago, I was wondering whether there might be a connection.
My ggrandfather, John Peter Delaney emigrated from Ireland (county Galway?) in 1853. He may have landed in Newport News Virginia. He spent some time in Virginia (around Shenandoah county). He married Mary Cook in Shenandoah Court house in 1856. They moved to Elizabethtown, KY. Two of their 12 children (Thomas and Bridget) were baptized at St Clare Catholic Church in Colesburg, Hardin county KY.
They moved to Louisville, KY after that and raised their family and died in Louisville.
I wonder whether they may have been related? If you have any additional information let me know. Sounds like your family was in the U.S. years before my ggrandfather, but that may be the reason he ended up where he did!
