The DeLanceys of NYC and environs are ancestral cousins of mine. The immigrant, Etienne De Lancey, a French Huguenot from Caen, married Anna Van Cortland, of the family of Van Cortland Manor, NY. The were rich merchants in NYC, well-bred, well educated and well married.

James DeLancey was Lt Gov of NY, and Chief Justice. His family were loyalists during the American Revolutiuon. His son, Oliver, Sr. was the Commanding Brig Gen of all Loyalist forces in America. After the Revolution, most of the family went to England, with some going to Nova Scotia.

A few branches remained with the Patriot cause and were able to stay in the United States. Some Loyalists were able to return at a later date.

The author, James Fennimore Cooper married a DeLancey daughter.

I have much more, including the descendants in England.

Bob
