The 1820 census is very difficult to figure out since only the head of the household is mentioned by name. The John mentioned is over the age of 26 -- but Warren's John was born in 1798 so he would have only been 22 at the time. So who was this John? Warren's brother, John? But he was counted in the NYC Census.

Now brother, John was married to Dorothy Wickham but James Fenimore Cooper mentions a 2nd marriage which was to a person of questionable reputation. Was this the Hannah Pearce (Pierce) mentioned in the NY paper who married a John DeLancey but died enroute to NYC from the island of St Croix? But we also know that John married the mother of John Jordon Morgan who outlived him and was buried on her son's farm (estate) in Brookfield.

And then you have the John Jr who John (Warren's brother)wrote to (letters held by Syracuse University in the Christopher Yates papers). Was he a natural son or a son by the 2nd marriage? And how old was he in 1820? Could he be the John mentioned in the 1820 Brookfield census?

Now John's daughter by Rhoda Hoxie married the Reverend Wilkins I believe -- but I will research the Kenyon connection. Remember back then it was normal for families to name a child after an influential neighbor -- so that might be the case here. But also remember Edward Floyd DeLancey -- James Fenimore Cooper -- and DA Story stated Warren had 13 children -- many of them natural -- but James Fenimore Cooper and Edward Floyd's dislike of the Peter branch of the family is well known -- so is that true?

I really think the solution to solving the Warren mysteries will require a trip to Brookfield, Unidillia Valley, and Edmenston to speak to the town historians. Maybe then we can find out the true story :o)
