Hi Kevin!
My birth mother's name was Freda Delancey and I was born in Parkersburg, WV. My adoption was private, set up by friends of my parents and my parents were able to get her name for me after I did some prodding. My mother had given me an article on my paternal grandfather (who lived to 100+), so I was able to get my father's name from that article. He died before I started searching, but I was able to get his obituary from the local paper and the internet helped even more. I found that he and his wife had a scholarship fund in their name and there was his picture. I have not contacted anyone close on that side, except a grandson who is not in contact with the family and he seems to have disappeared after my first email. Perhaps someday I will contact some of the Sheppards.
Freda died just before I found her name and I posted here for info. Her obituary was online. I gathered up the courage shortly thereafter and started making phone calls. The third call was her niece. I went to WV in October and met two of Freda's nieces and stay in contact now. I now have some photos of the DeLancey side of the family.
Best of luck in your search.
Rebekah
