Hi,
Concerning the origin of the name. It almost certainly is French, from the south of France, but the descendents have been in Ireland for some time perhaps since the time of Strongbow. The name De la Hunt Y means of the little founain or spring in the Langue d'Oc which is the "Patois" of the Southern French. Any fluent speaker of this language will tell you this immediately.
Good luck with you research,
Andy Delahunty
