Hello Patricia,
Hopefully we'll find a connection some day, but I'm afraid that today is not our lucky day.
My family emigrated from Thurles, Co. Tipperary in 1849-50.
The patriarch was JOHN DELAHUNT (this was the spelling on the ship's manifest). His wife was MARY BURKE. At the time they arrived in this country they were in their late 40s, & had 7 children: BRIDGIT, JAMES, DENIS, WILLIAM, MICHAEL, THOMAS & JOHN Jr.
JOHN Jr. married a woman named ELLEN ??? (Right now I'm at a computer in Iraq &, as you could imagine, no where near my genealogy files. I cannot remember ELLEN's last name). ELLEN died within 10 years of her marriage to JOHN Jr. (I know this because I saw the marriage entry in a book on Dispensations granted by a Brooklyn Bishop & another entry, years later, mentioning the same JOHN Jr & stating that he was a widower) JOHN Jr. re-married (ROSE LAWLOR) & had 1 child: JOHN III.
I do remember that within my census files I have a mention made of a JOHN & ELLEN DELAHUNTY along with 2 children. However, as the dates did not match up with "my" JOHN, I just scribbled the info down, not considering them to be descended from JOHN Sr & MARY DELAHUNT. I did not follow up on this lead. These folks may be related to you.
