I was raised in a foster family. The familiy's surname is Dekle, here in Cleveland, Ohio. The odd thing is that they are Black and all the other people who have that surname (other than their own relatives) are white. Does anyone have any info on how this came to be. My foster Mom is now 86 years old (Johnnie Mae Dekle) and I am just starting some research for her. Thanks. Does anyone have a list of Dekles in other parts of the country? Perhaps the name came to their family through slavery ties?
