I sorry the lead didn't seem to be a match for you.I remember talking with some of the older Deir's about 25 years ago and was told at that time that the Deir spelling was the Catholic and Dier was the Protestant version of the name. There were a number of extended family members in Canada where one of the couple was Catholic and married a Protestant.Because of the feelings that existed between the two groups do to happenings back in Ireland over the years, social pressure or individualism prompted the switch in letters of the name.I am not sure how accurate this bit of info is or if it could be applicable to Joshua or not but most of the Deir's I have met, researched or read about in family listings have not had the "old" biblical first names such as Joshua. This may be a possibility!Good luck Rod!!
