There is mention of a William of Brest, referring to the Brest of France. So the story goes he was the spouse of an illigitimate protestant offspring of French (Catholic) Royalty. Apparently the French royals were only too happy to claim their illigitimate kids because that was a source of revenue, but when they showed their Protestant leanings during times when it was not popular to do so, they would be exiled to the Netherlands. The suggestion was that the Dehart line began with this French Prince, William. I have not been able to ferret out any French royals of the time. Henry II would be the best placed, time-wise, and between his wife Catherine de Micci and his 25-year mistress, whose name escapes me at the moment, he would be unlikely sire to any exile.
