A biography/family history of Arie W. DeGroot is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol. 2.

Arie was born 29 Sep 1884, to Gerrit and Margaret (Sweinenberg) DeGroot, b. 1840 & 1843, Holland, respectively. They came to America in 1866 and settled in Three Oaks, Michigan. Gerrit farmed in Three Oaks and died there in 1910. Children: Anna, Jennie (Mrs. Joseph A. Baker), Buchanan, MI; Minnie (Mrs. Abram Sikkenga), Kalamazoo, MI; Alexander, York, ND; Johanna, d. at Three Oaks at age 39; Gerrit, Detroit, MI: Arthur, Three Oaks; Arie.

Arie graduated from Three Oaks high school in 1901, and completed two years Kalamazoo College. After two years working on the farm, he located to York, ND, 1905, and farmed there for one year and for two years was deputy county treasurer of Benson County. In 1908, Arie located to Glasgow, MT, for a year, then became a bookkeeper for the Columbus State Bank at Columbus, MT, and in six months was made assistant cashier and manager of the Bank of Absorakee for two years. He resigned and spent three years as representative of the Oregon Mortgage Company at Three Forks, MT. He then returned to Absorakee as manager & cashier of the Stillwater Valley National Bank. He was half owner of a ranch 15 miles northwest of Absorakee & owned a home in town.

In 1913, Columbus, MT, Arie married Miss Lillian Jacobs, daughter of M.A. and Anna (Cornell) Jacobs of Columbus. DeGroot children: Duncan, Frances

Arie DeGroot died 18 Mar 1956, age 71, Stillwater, Deer Lodge county, MT
