Hi - Was wondering if your DeGroat's are the same family as mine.Would it be Norman and Alice VonMosch DeGroat? This Norman would have been born in Redwood Falls in 1917 and died in St. Paul in 1987.Norman's parents were Harry and Emma Blank DeGroat of the Detroit Lakes area.Harry was my Grandma's first cousin. He was the son of Francis and Lydia Welch DeGroat."Frank", as he was called, was of Indian descent through the Brotherton, Delaware, and Montauk and Mohegan lines and Lydia was of Oneida, Brotherton and Stockbridge descent.Frank DeGroat was the son of John Morris and Harriet Lavenia DeGroat of New York.John died in the Civil War leaving a pregnant widow and 8 young children at home. After giving birth to her 9th child she moved to Brothertown, Wisconsin.Lydia was the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Ann Denny Welch. Her grandfather was an Oneida chief.Through the DeGroat's we also descend from a Delaware Indian Chief through the Moore and Calvin families and through the Fowler's we go through the Occum and Uncas families of the Mohegan.Feel free to contact me if you have any specific [email protected]
