My personal theory is that the DeGraws were farmers in that area and owned the land there. As a little girl I was told family history of the DeGraws coming from the Netherlands to New Amstersdam - the section of Brooklyn wiht DeGraw St. is across from the tip of Manhatten, where the New Amsterdam settlers landed and from where they spread out. There is also a DeGraw (ave/St) in Jersey City, NJ, and in Clifton, NJ.
