There is a story in my family that our original name was DeGraffenreid, of spanish descent, and it was changed to Reid in the 1900's. there were three brothers supposedly who came here.. they split up for some reason and headed in different parts of the country. Mine ended in Alabama and married native american.
I don't know if it's connected, but would like to know if your's was of Spanish descent.
