I am a descendent of this family and am looking for information. Jacobus Degroft was born 7/18/1776 in Conowego and was the son of Michael degroft and Margarita Kray. I've been trying for a long time to find out who Jacobus' wife was and also information on the Kray family.
Recently a researcher sent me a copy of the obituary for Caroline Degroft, my gggrandmother. It was unreadable in parts, but information I obtained includes the following: She was born 5/16/1827 in Philadelphia. Her parents were Jacobus and Ann Degroft. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Chillocothe, Ohio. When she was 14 (e.g., 1841), the Degrofts moved to Vermilion Co., Illinois. She married Ebenezer Ames in 1844 and had two sons. Ames died and later, in 1861, she married my gggrandfather, Philip Webber. The obituary states that the family were members of the Lutheran Church.
Years ago, a researcher (since deceased) sent me information which he said came from a Bible record. It states that Jacobus was born 7/18/1776 in Pennsylvania and died 9/22/1865. His wife was only list as Ann Margaret, born 1800 in Pennsylvania and died 12/21/1862. Jacobus is said to have been a soldier in the War of 1812.
Do you know anything of these families? I hope that this useful. Thanks!
