Hi Nancy,
My great-grandfather, Vincenzo DiGiorgio supposedly came to NY from Francavilla in Potenza Province, Basilicata Region of Italy some time in 1887.He came with my great-grandmother, Josephine Pandolfo.Josephine died some time in 1888. I was told Vincenzo worked as a shipyard worker on the NY docks. Also, he remarried and had 3 more sons:Ralph, John & Tony.Vincenzo's brothers were Philip DeGeorge (born 1874 in Italy), Louis DiGiorgio (born 1876 in Italy)and Salvator (don't know if he used DeGeorge or DiGiorgio).Don't know much about Salvator because I was told he got on the wrong boat and went to South America.
My grandfather, Joseph Nicholas DeGeorge was born on December 11, 1887 in New York (don't know where in NY exactly but probably New York City) When I sent away for his birth certificate they were unable to locate it.
My grandmother was Anna Theresa Connelly.
I justed looked at where Calabria is -- it borders on Basilicata and is the region south of it (the boot)

Thanks for answering my message.
