Forrest or DeForrest From Scotland?

My GG grandfather was John Charles DeForrest. Born 1830 in Kentucky, he was orphaned early and raised by a Watson family. Married Malinda Reed July, 1864. My DNA points to Lowland Scotland for the paternal line. There are lots of Forrests and a few DeForrests. The Normans introduced the concept of surnames and tacked on DeForrest. Looking for DeForrests with DNA markers in hand or willing to submit a saliva sample. Thanks.
