Our information is that John DeFord's ancestor was Jean DeFord, a French Huguenot, born 1668 in Toulouse, France. He died in Queen Anne Cty., 1736. His wife was Marie Marchand, also a Huguenot. Their descendant was John DeFord (born: 1750) who was a private in Captain John Hawkins Co., 5th Reg. commanded by Col. Wm. Richardson during the "War of the Revolution." He enlisted from Queen Anne Cty. on March 8, 1778 and was discharged on October 10, 1779.
His wife was Ann Tomlin. His son, John DeFord, was born in 1772. He left Maryland about 3yrs. after the Rev. War and ventured West, probably over the Great Trail. He married Nancy Hopwood, who was born in 1785. They met in Pennsylvania, where John lived and worked until about 1811. John and Nancy had three sons, namely: named Daniel DeFord, Nathan DeFord, and William DeFord.
We are descendants from Daniel DeFord, who was born in Carroll County, Ohio on 1813 and died on August 29, 1860. Nancy Hopwood died in 1815 and is buried in Hopwood,PA. John DeFord remained in Carroll County, Ohio until his death in 1873! His lineage includes a considerable number of doctors and a few lawyers as well. /s/ Wallace W. Walker, Jr.
