My grandfather Deese was always adamant about the pronunciation of our family name. It rhymes with Reese, never a "z" sound. His mother's maiden name, Deas, was pronounced with a "z" sound to rhyme with "peas". In South Carolina in Camden and Charleston, the more arisotcratic Deas pronounce it as "daze". Any thoughts?
