Deese, Dees, Deas are probably the same

The name Dees came from English ancestors. Since Sir names originally were derived from characteristics, occupations, localities, patronymics, etc. it is possible that the Dees came from Dee, a small river of England or Scotland. Sir names came by the Normans to England about the 12th century. The inhabitants along the river Dee were likely referred to as the Dee's, thereby making Dee plural.

Since our coming to America sometime in the seventeenth century, it is possible that some families spelled the name however they thought it sounded. Imagine a census taker going to a man who could not read or write. He asks the man's name and is told "Dees". The census taker then has a choice how to spell it.
