Just today I saw a sentence in the Ozark Southern Star for April or May of 1943 where a Mable Deese was Miss Senior High of Dale Co. High School. I don't know if that is back far enough to be your grandmother or not. I was looking at microfilm of newspapers from Alabama Archives for an obituary for Gerona Joiner Deese who died April 29, 1943 in Dale Co. Ozark is not far from Dothan. Just thought I would pass that along - it may give you a place to look. I do know that Gerona did not have a daughter named Mable. Her husband was John E. Deese.
