Deen Family Genealogy Forum

Sharon,
Thanks for your fearless work to solve the Ransom L. Deen puzzle. Can I interpret your findings to mean that Ransom L. Deen of Conecuh Co., AL is the son of Richard Dean/Deen of Washington and Laurens County, GA? I have been trying for over twenty years to place my relative, Susan Elizabeth Deen who married ca. 1874 James L. Barrow, both of whom were from Old Town, Conecuh Co., AL. One of my relatives, in her synopsis of our family history, wrote this: "Deen was the maiden name of Dora's (Barrow) grandmother (Susan Elizabeth Deen) and wished to continue the name because there were no male off-spring of the Deen family to perpetuate it." This would seem to fit with the name change enabling a step-son or adopted son, Andrew Jackson Culpepper to assume the Deen surname.
Thanks again,
Roy D. Fuller
